It is a medicine formulated with povidone iodine, an active ingredient with antiseptic properties that is indicated as a soap for the disinfection of small wounds and superficial cuts or grazes.
In hospitals it is used as an antiseptic for the operating field, puncture sites, small wounds, minor burns and surgical material.
It comes in a convenient 125 ml bottle with dropper.
Intended for use in adults and children over 1 month of age.
In pregnancy and breastfeeding, the doctor's instructions should be strictly followed, as its use could produce transitory hypothyroidism in foetuses and newborns.
Add a small amount of product to the desired area and rub gently for 2-5 minutes until a rich lather is obtained. Rinse with plenty of water or with a sterile gauze pad soaked in water. Repeat the process 2 or 3 times a day.
For topical use only. Do not ingest and avoid contact with eyes, ears and other mucous membranes.
Do not use Betadine Soap Solution:
In newborn babies less than 1 month old.
In case of allergy to povidone iodine or to any of the excipients present in this medicine.
If you suffer from hyperthyroidism or other acute thyroid diseases.
Betadine Soap Solution may cause side effects, as with all medicines. This does not mean that everyone will experience side effects. In this case, the following have been observed:
Rare: hypersensitivity and contact dermatitis manifesting as red skin, small blisters and itching, in such cases discontinue treatment and wash the affected area.
Very rare: anaphylactic reactions, hyperthyroidism with tachycardia and agitation, and angioedema.
Unknown frequency: hypothyroidism, electrolyte imbalance, metabolic acidosis, acute renal failure, abnormal blood osmolarity, exfoliative dermatitis, dry skin and chemical skin burn.
Each ml of Betadine Soap Solution contains 40 mg povidone iodine, equivalent to 4%. The other excipients are: nonylphenol ether ammonium sulphate, diethanolamide laurate, sodium hydroxide (E 524) and purified water.
This medicinal product should be handled with special care so as not to spill it, as it may irreversibly damage surfaces and clothing.
Its use may interact with diagnostic tests, leading to errors in tolvidin or guaiacol tests for haemoglobin or glucose in stool or urine. It may also interfere with thyroid tests and radioactive iodine treatments.
