What is Hibiscrub and what is it used for?

It is a medicine formulated with chlorhexidine dichlogunate, which belongs to the group of antiseptics and disinfectants . It istherefore used as an antiseptic for hand washing in surgery and for healthcare personnel, and as a pre- and post-operative skin antiseptic.

For whom it is intended for

It is indicated for use in both adults and children.

There are no known problems during pregnancy and lactation, although a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted before use.

Directions for use

The indicated dosage depends on each case:

  • Antiseptic hand washing in surgery: wet hands and forearms, apply 5 ml of Hibiscrub and wash for 1 minute, cleaning nails with a brush, rinse and apply another 5 ml for 2 minutes; rinse and dry.

  • Antiseptic hand washing of healthcare personnel: wet hands and forearms, apply 5 ml of Hibiscrub and wash for 1 minute; rinse and dry.

  • Pre-operative antiseptic skin washing: wash the whole body (bath or shower) at least twice, usually the day before and the day of the operation as follows: the day before surgery wash with 25 ml of Hibiscrub starting from the face and working downwards, paying attention to the surrounding areas of the nose, armpits, navel, groin and perineum. Then rinse and repeat the washing with another 25 ml, including the hair. Finally rinse and dry. This procedure should be repeated the following day. For bedridden patients, apply the usual bed washing technique. Perform the conventional antiseptic wash of the surgical site with the patient in the operating theatre.

  • Post-operative antiseptic skin cleansing: from the third day after the surgical procedure, wash the entire body, excluding the surgical site, following the pre-operative antiseptic skin cleansing procedure.
