It is a medicine formulated with chlorhexidine dichlogunate, which belongs to the group of antiseptics and disinfectants . It istherefore used as an antiseptic for hand washing in surgery and for healthcare personnel, and as a pre- and post-operative skin antiseptic.
It is indicated for use in both adults and children.
There are no known problems during pregnancy and lactation, although a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted before use.
The indicated dosage depends on each case:
Antiseptic hand washing in surgery: wet hands and forearms, apply 5 ml of Hibiscrub and wash for 1 minute, cleaning nails with a brush, rinse and apply another 5 ml for 2 minutes; rinse and dry.
Antiseptic hand washing of healthcare personnel: wet hands and forearms, apply 5 ml of Hibiscrub and wash for 1 minute; rinse and dry.
Pre-operative antiseptic skin washing: wash the whole body (bath or shower) at least twice, usually the day before and the day of the operation as follows: the day before surgery wash with 25 ml of Hibiscrub starting from the face and working downwards, paying attention to the surrounding areas of the nose, armpits, navel, groin and perineum. Then rinse and repeat the washing with another 25 ml, including the hair. Finally rinse and dry. This procedure should be repeated the following day. For bedridden patients, apply the usual bed washing technique. Perform the conventional antiseptic wash of the surgical site with the patient in the operating theatre.
Post-operative antiseptic skin cleansing: from the third day after the surgical procedure, wash the entire body, excluding the surgical site, following the pre-operative antiseptic skin cleansing procedure.
Do not use Hibiscrub if you are allergic to chlorhexidine digluconate or to any of the excipients.
The use of several disinfectants at the same time or in succession should be avoided, except with other cationic compounds.
Do not use in combination with or after application of anionic soaps, acids, heavy metal salts and iodine.
Hibiscrub may cause side effects, as with all medicines. In this case, the following serious side effects have been reported, the frequency of which is unknown:
Serious allergic reactions (anaphylactic reaction) which may cause difficulty in breathing, weakness, collapse and death and may sometimes be preceded by swelling (particularly lip swelling, tongue swelling and facial swelling) or rash.
Chemical burns in neonates.
Allergic skin disorders, skin inflammation (dermatitis), itching (pruritus), skin redness (erythema), eczema, rash, urticaria, skin irritation and blistering.
The active substance of Hibiscrub is chlorhexidine digluconate. Each ml contains 40 mg chlorhexidine digluconate .
The other excipients are:PEG-7-glyceryl cocoate, glycerol (E422), D-gluconolactone, isopropyl alcohol, lauryl dimethylamine oxide, citrus perfume, polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene copolymer (poloxamer 237), Ponceau 4R (E124), sodium hydroxide (E524) and purified water.
This is a medicinal product for external use on the skin only. Do not swallow.
In case of accidental contact with eyes or ears, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
