It is a medicine formulated with povidone iodine, an active ingredient with antiseptic action for cutaneous use, so it is widely used for the disinfection of small wounds and superficial cuts, minor burns or grazes.
In hospitals it is used as an antiseptic for the operating field, puncture sites, small wounds, minor burns and surgical material.
It comes in a convenient 50 ml bottle, perfect to have in any medicine cabinet.
Intended for use on adults and babies from 1 month of age.
Wash and dry the affected area before applying the product. The process can be repeated 2 or 3 times a day, avoiding contact with eyes, ears and mucous membranes.
Do not use Normovidone Skin Solution:
In newborn babies under 1 month of age.
In case of allergy to povidone iodine or to any of the components present in this medicinal product.
In patients with hyperthyroidism or other acute thyroid diseases.
On eyes, ears or other mucous membranes.
In pregnant or breast-feeding women, except on medical advice, as the use of this medicinal product may cause transient hypothyroidism in foetuses and newborns.
Normovidone may cause side effects, as with all medicines. This does not mean that all people will experience side effects. In this case, the following have been observed:
Rare: hypersensitivity and contact dermatitis manifesting as red skin, small blisters and itching, in such cases discontinue treatment and wash the affected area.
Very rare: anaphylactic reactions, hyperthyroidism with tachycardia and agitation, and angioedema.
Unknown frequency: hypothyroidism, electrolyte imbalance, metabolic acidosis, acute renal failure, abnormal blood osmolarity, exfoliative dermatitis, dry skin and chemical skin burn.
Each ml of Normovidone contains 100 mg povidone iodine as the main active ingredient, equivalent to 10%. The other excipients are: disodium phosphate and purified water.
This medicine should be handled with great care not to spill, as it may irreversibly damage surfaces and clothing.
In addition, it may interact with diagnostic tests and cause errors in tolvidin or guaiacol tests for haemoglobin or glucose in stool or urine. It may also interfere with thyroid tests and radioactive iodine treatments.
