Nicorette Clear 15 mg/16 hours is a medicatedtransdermal patch used to relieve withdrawal symptoms and reduce nicotine cravings that occur when you are trying to quit smoking, including anxiety, associated with quitting tobacco use.
When you suddenly stop providing your body with nicotine from tobacco, you are affected by different types of unpleasant sensations, known as withdrawal symptoms, such as irritability or aggressiveness, depression, anxiety, restlessness, concentration problems, increased appetite or anxiety, increased appetite and anxiety.These include irritability or aggression, depression, anxiety, restlessness, concentration problems, increased appetite or weight gain, cravings (anxiety), night-time awakenings or sleep disorders, dizziness, temporary alterations of consciousness, coughing, constipation, bleeding gums, mouth ulcers or colds.
Suitable for use by smokers over 18 years of age.
The patch should be placed on an undamaged area of skin upon rising and removed after 16 hours.
Monotherapy. It is recommended to start using 1 patch of 15 mg/16 hours per day for 8 weeks. Thereafter, a tapering of the initial dose should be started, using 1 patch of 10 mg/16 hours per day for 4 weeks.

The duration of treatment is about 3 months but may vary according to individual response. If you feel the need to continue using Nicorette Clear after 6 months of treatment, you should ask your doctor for advice.
Generally, advice and support will increase the likelihood of success.
Combination therapy. Highly dependent smokers, smokers who experience irresistible cravings or those who were unable to quit smoking with single-drug Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) alone may benefit from using Nicorette Clear in combination with oral nicotine in a combination of Nicorette Clear and nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).They may benefit from using Nicorette Clear in combination with oral nicotine with a flexible dosing schedule consisting of nicotine 2mg medicated gum, nicotine 2mg lozenge or nicotine 1mg/pulse mouth spray solution to control their cravings more easily.
In the case of combination therapy, Nicorette Clear transdermal patches and the oral medicine should be used according to the same dosage recommendations as when used separately. Read the oral forms leaflet to understand how to use it accurately and safely.
Use only one type of oral medicine per day.
Do not use Nicorette Clear 15 mg/16 hour transdermal patches:
- If you are under 18 years of age.
- If you are a non-smoker.
- If you are allergic to nicotine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
- If you have a skin condition that may be affected by the application of the patches.
Like all medicines, Nicorette Clear transdermal patches may cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them. In this case, about 20% of patients experience mild skin reactions during the first few weeks of treatment.
The very act of quitting smoking can cause symptoms such as dizziness, headache, sleep problems, cough and cold-like symptoms. The side effects are usually dependent on the dose you take. Symptoms such as depression, irritability, anxiety, restlessness, increased appetite and insomnia may also be related to smoking cessation.
- Very common side effects: Itching.
- Common side effects: Headache, Nausea, vomiting, Rash, urticaria.
- Rare side effects:Palpitations (unusual sensation of heartbeat), Increased heart rate, Fatigue, malaise, chest pain, Administration site reactions, Hypersensitivity, pain in the chest, Pain at the site of administration.Rare adverse effects: Palpitations (unusual sensation of heartbeat), Increased heart rate, Fatigue, malaise, chest pain, Reactions at the site of administration, Hypersensitivity, muscle pain, Tingling, sleep disturbances, difficulty breathing, Excessive sweating, Hot flushes and hypertension.
- Adverse effects with unknown frequency: gastrointestinal upset, anaphylactic reaction, angioedema, erythema.
Most of these side effects occur during the early stages of treatment. Rarely, allergic reactions (including symptoms of anaphylaxis) may occur during the use of Nicorette Clear 15 mg/16 hours patches.
If you notice any of the following serious side effects, stop using Nicorette Clear 15 mg/16 hour transdermal patches and contact your doctor immediately as they may be symptoms of a serious allergy:
- Hives (skin condition characterised by itching and red patches).
- Swollen face, tongue or throat.
- Difficulty breathing.
- Difficulty swallowing.
The active substance is nicotine. Each 13.5 cm2 Nicorette Clear transdermal patch contains 23.62 mg of nicotine and delivers a dose of 0.93 mg of nicotine per hour for 16 hours. The other ingredients are: medium chain triglycerides, basic butylated methacrylate copolymer, polyethylene terephthalate film, acrylate matrix (containing acrylic adhesive solution, potassium hydroxide, croscarmellose sódica, aluminium acetylacetonate), protective coating (containing single polyethylene terephthalate (PET) foil coated with aluminium and silicone coated on both sides), printing ink (containing blending varnish, beige printing ink and brown printing ink).
Each nicotine patch is packaged in a sealed multi-laminate pouch, and stored in the box.
