Betadine Topical Vaginal Solution 125 ml

It is a topical vaginal antiseptic medicine whose active ingredient is povidone iodine, an active ingredient indicated as an antiseptic for the external vaginal area and the relief of symptoms associated with vaginal infections.

Suitable for use in adults and children, although it is not indicated for use in newborns (0-1 month).

In pregnancy and lactation, use only under medical prescription and for as short a time as possible. Its use may cause transient hypothyroidism in foetuses and newborns.

The use of this medicine is exclusively vaginal.

Wash with a dilution of 2 capfuls of product per litre of warm boiled water. Apply 1 to 2 times a day (or more often, as needed).

• Do not use Betadine vaginal if you are allergic to povidone iodine or any of the excipients. It is also not recommended for use if you have hyperthyroidism or other acute thyroid diseases.

• Do not use before or after radioactive iodine scintigraphy or treatment of thyroid carcinoma with radioactive iodine.

Betadine Vaginal Solution may cause side effects, as with all medicines:

• Rare adverse effects: hypersensitivity and contact dermatitis.

• Very rare side effects: anaphylactic reactions, hyperthyroidism with tachycardia and agitation and angioedema.

• Adverse effects of unknown frequency: hypothyroidism, electrolyte imbalance, metabolic acidosis, acute renal failure, abnormal blood osmolarity, exfoliative dermatitis, dry skin and chemical skin burn.

The active substance of Betadine Vaginal Solution is povidone iodine. Each ml of solution contains 100 mg povidone iodine. As excipients: macrogol 9 lauryl ether, sodium hydroxide (E 524) and purified water.

This is a brown solution in a 125 ml container.

Avoid contact with eyes, ears and other mucous membranes. If used in preparation before an operation, avoid accumulation of product under the patient as it may cause skin irritation and burns.
