Betadine Topical Gel 100 gr

It is a gel medicine with antiseptic action thanks to its formula with povidone iodine, a very useful active ingredient in the treatment of small wounds and superficial cuts, minor burns or grazes.

It comes in a practical 100 g tube.

This product is intended for use on adults and babies over 1 month old.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the doctor's instructions should be strictly followed before use, as it could cause transitory hypothyroidism in foetuses and newborns.

Apply the gel on the affected area, previously clean and dry, avoiding contact with eyes, ears and mucous membranes.

Do not use Betadine gel:

• In newborn babies from 0 to 1 month.

• In case of allergy or hypersensitivity to povidone iodine or to any of the excipients present in this medicine.

• In patients with hyperthyroidism or other acute thyroid diseases.

Betadine gel may cause side effects, as with all medicines. This does not mean that all people will experience side effects. In this case, the following have been observed:

• Rare: hypersensitivity and contact dermatitis manifesting as red skin, small blisters and itching, in such cases discontinue treatment and wash the affected area.

• Very rare: anaphylactic reactions, hyperthyroidism with tachycardia and agitation, and angioedema.

• Unknown frequency: hypothyroidism, electrolyte imbalance, metabolic acidosis, acute renal failure, abnormal blood osmolarity, exfoliative dermatitis, dry skin and chemical skin burn.

Each gram of Betadine gel contains 100 mg of povidone iodine. The other ingredients are: macrogol 400, macrogol 4000, macrogol 6000 and purified water.

The gel format makes this product ideal for use on burns.

We recommend caution with the use of this medicine, as it may interact with diagnostic procedures, causing errors in tests with tolvidin or guaiacol, to determine haemoglobin or glucose in stool or urine. It may also interfere with thyroid tests and radioactive iodine treatments.
