Most creatine is found in the skeletal muscle, mainly in the form of phosphocreatine, which is used to obtain energy quickly, but creatine also has an alkalinising capacity and reduces muscle acidosis, thus delaying fatigue and having a restorative effect.

The function of creatine monohydrate is to increase muscle phosphocreatine stores so that ATP continues to be produced, providing the energy needed to keep muscles working during high intensity exercise.
