This may include patients who are bedridden, patients with spinal cord injuries, patients with physical or cognitive disabilities, and patients who are recovering from surgery or an illness that requires them to remain in bed.

1. Wash your hands with soap and water before handling the urine bag.

2. Make sure the urine bag is clean, dry and in good condition before use.

3. Place the urine bag on your leg, making sure the opening of the bag is facing downwards.

4. Secure the bag on your leg with the elastic strap provided, making sure it is snug but not too tight.

5. Open the drain valve and ensure that the bag is positioned correctly to allow urine to flow into the collection bag.

6. Once the bag is full or after a set time as prescribed by your doctor, close the drain valve and carefully remove the bag from your leg.

If a patient already has a urinary tract infection, use of a urine bag may increase the risk of spreading the infection.

If faecal incontinence is present, the use of a urine bag may increase the risk of faecal contamination in the urine and therefore increase the risk of infection.

If you have a known allergy to the urine-bag material, use of the bag may trigger an allergic reaction.
