Wintergreen is a shrub that grows low to the ground, reaching no more than about 15 cm in height. It grows in Canada in forests and acidic, sandy bogs. It is an essential oil that concentrates practically all of its composition in one active ingredient, methyl salicylate, which has made it known as "the natural aspirin".
