What is the Dfv Leishmaniasis Test and what is it for?

TheDfv Leishmaniasis Test is an accessory that allows you to check if your dog is infected with a protozoan parasite called Leishmania infantum. This device can be used with blood or serum samples to obtain reliable results.

The package contains an anticoagulant tube, a plastic pipette, a vial with buffer solution and a test device. The accessory works in a very simple way. When the animal is infected with the parasite, the body generates some antibodies to treat the infection. As these antibodies are unique to the parasite, if the test is positive, specialised medical treatment can be given to the animal.

Who is it for?

This device is specially designed to test blood or serum samples from dogs for Leishmania infantum.

Instructions for use

To use the Dfv Leishmaniasis Test correctly, follow these steps:

  1. Open the sachet and hold the device on a flat surface.
  2. Use the pipette to acquire 20 ml of the sample to deposit in the well (S).
  3. Add the entire contents of the vial together with the buffer solution into the well (S).
  4. Wait 10 minutes before reading.

It is recommended to perform the test with blood or serum samples with anticoagulant (citrate, EDTA or heparin) if you do not wish to use the one included. It should not be used if the blood has clots or the sample is heavily haemolysed.

How to read the results of the Leishmaniasis test?

When reading the results, the following should be taken into account:

  • When the result is positive (confirmed infection), a coloured band appears in the test area (T). There is also another band in the control area (C).
  • If the result is negative, only one band is visible in the control zone (C).
  • The result is invalid if there is no coloured band in the control area (C). In this case the procedure must be repeated with a new product and a different sample from the one used.

Storage

For proper storage the product should be kept at a temperature below 30 degrees Celsius (do not refrigerate). Do not freeze and keep away from sunlight. If used after the expiry date the test will be invalid and unreliable.
