Aptima® Skincontrol shampoo is specially designed for horse skin that is continuously exposed to humid environments. This shampoo has a pleasant, delicate smell and contains keratolytic and drying ingredients that stimulate skin exfoliation and allow the product to act deeply.
Aptima® Skincontrol shampoo contains boric acid and glycolic acid which interact and combine their qualities to allow the product to act deeply and effectively. These acids have a drying and fat-splitting action to produce fatty acids (lipolytic action). They also help to partially or completely dissolve the horny layer of the skin when it is too hard (keratolytic action). The exfoliating effect of this shampoo promotes the recovery and renewal of the cutaneous epithelium to allow the dermis to absorb all the beneficial ingredients.
Boric acid can inhibit the ability of fungi to metabolise and therefore helps to neutralise fungal infections. Glycolic acid, on the other hand, penetrates the skin easily and manages to reach its deepest layers: Its exfoliating effect promotes the shedding of the most superficial cells to encourage normal hydration and keratinisation of the dermis.
Ceramides are also included in its composition to help restore the epithelium and preserve the barrier effect of the skin. This animal health product does not contain antibiotics or corticosteroids and can be used long-term without affecting the skin health of horses. The use of this shampoo helps to reduce itching, burning, redness and inflammation in horses' skin, but can also be useful for dogs and cats undergoing the same skin processes.
This shampoo is indicated for animals with abundant skin desquamation caused by altered sebum and keratin production. It can be used on localised or generalised areas that require the drying and acidifying effects of boric acid. It is a product that can be applied to animals in the short term and also on a regular basis.
The product can be used on a daily basis, depending on the individual case. In some cases, it is advisable to trim the animal's coat before applying the shampoo, so that the contact with the skin is more effective. For an initial treatment, 2 to 3 weekly applications should be made, leaving it to act for 5 minutes. As a maintenance treatment it can be applied once a week.
This product is not suitable for animals with open, bleeding or contaminated skin wounds, nor for those with allergic reactions to any of its components.
