What are Trofolastin patches and what are they used for?

Trofolastin Scar Reducer is a 5x7.5 cm dressing designed to reduce and improve the appearance of scars. This product is specially formulated with active ingredients that help to soften, moisturise and regenerate damaged skin. It is used to treat scars of different types, such as those caused by surgery, burns, wounds or acne. Regular and consistent use can help minimise the appearance of scars, improving their texture and colour. It is important to follow the instructions for use and consult a health professional before using this product.

Directions

Ideal for the reduction of recent or old hypertrophic scars, or keloids, caused by burns, general surgery, cosmetic surgery or traumatic wounds. Its use prevents scar hypertrophy and the appearance of keloids in recent scars that have not yet hypertrophied.

Advantages

  • Trofolastin dressing protects scars from sunlight, is flexible and water resistant.

  • Each patch can be cut to size to fit the desired area.

  • Its use reduces the height and softens the colour of the scar. It also reduces the discomfort caused by the scar It does not contain medication; it works through a physical mechanism.

  • Reduces keloids caused by burns, general surgery or traumatic injuries.

How to use

To use the Trofolastin patch, first remove the protective paper from the dressing and apply over the area to be treated clean and dry, making sure that no folds are formed. You can keep the dressing on for up to 7 days.

The effects can be seen after 8-10 weeks of treatment, but keeping the dressing on for longer will give better results. It protects the scars from the sun's rays.

Contraindications

  • Do not use the dressing on open or infected wounds.

  • Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.

Precautions

Some precautions to take into account when using Trofolastin Scar Reducer patches are:

1. Before using this product, you should ensure that the scar is completely closed and dry.
2. Be sure to clean and dry the scar area thoroughly before applying the dressing.
3. If you experience any allergic reaction, such as redness, itching or irritation, discontinue use and consult a physician.

Professional advice

Scars form as a healing process of wounds covered by a piece of skin. This process is a dynamic process of the cells and is therefore technically often divided into several phases. The phase of inflammation, neoformation of the tissue and remodelling of the extracellular matrix. This last phase is the one we are most interested in, as hypertrophic or keloid scars occur when there is an overproduction of fibrous tissue. In both cases there is an increase in the number of cells that produce collagen profiles not found in normal skin or in non-hypertrophic scars. In both cases there is an abnormally high content of type V collagen, related to the presence of numerous capillaries in these scars. Very compact collagen nodules are observed, often encapsulated by proteoglycans which, together with specific protease inhibitors, protect them from degradation. To minimise the appearance of hypertrophic and keloid scars, and to reduce them once they have developed, these adherent polyurethane dressings act physically to facilitate the prevention and reduction of recent or old hypertrophic and keloid scars.
