Vitamin B-3, a water-soluble nutrient, occurs in several forms, all of which can be identified as niacin. One form is Nicotinamide, synonymous with niacinamide. Nicotinamide is involved in over fifty metabolic reactions, and plays a key role in glycolysis, Krebs Cycle Reactions and hexose monophosphate anastomosis, all of which are important in the release of energy from macronutrients.
It is also needed in amino acid deamination, essential fatty acid metabolism and fatty acid metabolism.
Playing a role in the formation of red blood cells, steroids and energy production within cells, nicotinamide is vital for maintaining the integrity of all cells in the body.
