Senna, due to its anthraquinone content and its action on the large intestine, is considered a typical laxative. The bark of frangula contributes to this same action. Mate, tea, horsetail and bearberry leaves have a diuretic action. Juniper essential oil has the effect of increasing glomerular filtration in the kidneys and thus the production of urine. Elderberry is used as a diuretic and laxative due to its mineral salt and mucilage content.
