Using 1 litre of water will stimulate peristalsis and therefore favour the laxative effect, bearing in mind that the colder the water, the more peristalsis is stimulated. Although in the case of spastic constipation (the muscle fibres surrounding the intestine contract and therefore the faeces cannot move forward), the water should be lukewarm, around 38 degrees to soften the walls of the intestine.
