Royal Canine, diet for dogs
Royal Canin Renal Dog.
Food of choice for dogs with chronic renal insufficiency. It is also effective in the management of relapses of urate and cystine urolithiasis.
Chronic renal failure (CRF).
Management of relapses of urolithiasis requiring urine alkalinisation: urate and cystine urolithiasis.
Management of recurrences of calcium oxalate uroliths in dogs with compromised renal function.
Pregnancy, lactation, growth.
Pancreatitis or history of episodes of pancreatitis.
Hyperlipidaemia.
Dietary treatment is prescribed for a minimum duration of 6 months, after this period it will be necessary to assess the continuation of the same according to veterinary criteria. When the renal lesion affects 3/4 of the kidneys, the disease is considered irreversible and dietary therapy should be maintained for life.
Restricted phosphorus intake is essential to curb secondary hyperparathyroidism leading to worsening renal failure.
Long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (EPA, DHA) help to limit the decrease in glomerular filtration rate (anti-inflammatory action).
Flavanols (a specific type of polyphenols) have two main effects: they slow down the oxidative process and promote renal perfusion.
Increased uraemia can induce ulceration of the gastric and intestinal mucosa. The combination of zeolite and FOS minimises this risk.
Dogs with renal insufficiency have a reduced appetite, so a food with high palatability is essential. Renal Canine kibble is easy to chew, even for dogs with gingivitis. Dogs with renal insufficiency are generally older: Renal Canine has a high antioxidant content in order to fight free radicals, the negative effects of which increase with age.
