Royal Canine, diet for dogs
Royal Canin Renal Dog.
Food of choice for dogs with chronic renal insufficiency. It is also effective in the management of relapses of urate and cystine urolithiasis.
Chronic renal insufficiency (CRF).
Management of relapses of urolithiasis requiring urine alkalinisation: urate and cystine urolithiasis.
Management of recurrence of calcium oxalate uroliths in dogs with compromised renal function.
Pregnancy, lactation, growth.
Pancreatitis or history of episodes of pancreatitis.
Hyperlipidaemia.
Dietary treatment is prescribed for a minimum duration of 6 months, after this period it will be necessary to evaluate the continuation of the same according to veterinary criteria. When the renal lesion affects 3/4 of the kidneys, the disease is considered irreversible and dietary therapy is maintained for life.
Restricted phosphorus intake is essential to curb secondary hyperparathyroidism leading to worsening renal failure.
Long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (EPA, DHA) help to limit the decrease in glomerular filtration rate (anti-inflammatory action).
