Meralut is a food supplement containing vitamin A, natural flavonoids, lutein and zeaxanthin. These are components that help to improve visual health and keep the retina in good condition. Adequate amounts of vitamin A in this supplement contribute to the maintenance of normal vision and mucous membranes. In addition, vitamin A also provides extra support to the body by contributing to the normal functioning of the immune system. As for lutein and zeaxanthin, these yellow pigments from certain plants are also found in the macula of the human eye. They have antioxidant functions, protecting the body against the harmful effects of free radicals. They also prevent blue light from reaching the structures of the retina, thus minimising oxidative damage caused by light to this inner membrane of the eye. In the same vein, they play an active role in increasing the optical density of macular pigment. This pigment is also thought to contribute to protection against macular degeneration.
