L-Threonine is one of the 20 amino acids that make up proteins, it is an essential amino acid, meaning that it is not produced by the body and must be obtained through diet or supplementation. L-Threonine is a very beneficial amino acid that inhibits the accumulation of fat in the liver (lipotropic) combined with Aspartic and Methionine.
It is a potent precursor of glycine and serine. Threonine is found in the central nervous system, skeletal muscle and the myocardium (heart). It is involved in the production of neurotransmitters, which are the key to the transmission of information by our brain and are responsible for our mood and happiness. It is also involved in the formation of collagen, the synthesis of elastin and the production of tooth and nail enamel.
